This is the product that I started Lochaber Mountain Design for: a backpack for alpine climbing built to the simplest possible pattern. The entire backpack is in essence two pieces of fabric held togther with a single quadruple stitched seam.

Because of the minimalist design I can use extremely durable fabrics and still come in lighter than my commercial competitors – a 40l pack made from heavy duty 1000D Nylon weighs just 850g.

  • Dual density foam shoulder straps are extremely comfortable on the approach, and low profile for full freedom of movement on the route.
  • Twin daisy chain webbing allows multiple carry configurations – from ice tools to sleeping pads and helmets.
  • Roll top / draw cord access is waterproof and easy to use, even with belay mitts on.
  • Made from 1000D Texturised Nylon from Profabrics – an old-school material which is extremely durable and waterproof.
  • 40mm webbing hipbelt with options for a padded hipbelt upgrade.
  • Small internal pocket with key clip.

All of my packs are custom fitted. It is shocking how many manufacturers claim to be inclusive yet only offer their top of the range alpine pack in one ‘unisex’ (mens medium) size.
